the dane's bridge

Thomas Fagan wrote in 1835 "In the Mountain Bog of Cluntygaragh is a very remarkable bridge, known locally as Dreachad na Lochlannach or the Dane's Bridge constructed and composed of moss. It is 50 feet long, 30 feet wide, depth of arch 7 feet, width of arch 4 feet, depth of roof 3 feet - 5 feet.  Close by are the remains of eight ancient houses, along the banks of a stream, suggesting a settlement by the tradition of Danes."  The stream today is known as Sheskinamaddy Burn, but the ruins are now unidentifiable.
