three cairns at carn

Cairns are not common in County Derry, but a few are to be found in mountaineous districts.  Three cairns lie close to the Glenshane Pass, on the Dungiven side of Carn.  One lies just below the road, but is so overgrown that it is not easily visible.  On the south side there are two gate-like pillar stones, rising high above the retaining wall which surrounds the cairn.  Another large cairn lies about fifty yards to the south of the first one but has no retaining wall.  A further fifty yards away there is what appears to be a smaller cairn, the remains of a larger one at some time.
